The Seacoast Women's Giving Circle

Each year the Seacoast Women's Giving Circle focuses on a specific community need or issue. During our fourth giving cycle, which will culminate in a collective gift in June 2010, we will focus on women's economic security. In prior years, we have tackled environmental issues, housing and homelessness, and children at risk. Our members and supporters have invested over $70,000 in local community organizations and volunteered countless hours for causes that spark our passions and address the needs of the Seacoast community.

Since our founding in 2006, many of you have shared your expertise with us, helping to unravel and explain the complicated issues facing our community. Thank you all for your guidance, ideas, patience and most of all for your personal commitment to improving the quality of life on the Seacoast for all who live here.

We are now seeking proposals for our 2010 gift from non-profit organizations. To be eligible for the 2010 grant, organizations must address the issue and population selected by the Seacoast Women's Giving Circle this giving cycle. We are seeking proposals that help single mothers and/or working mothers overcome obstacles to achieving economic security by addressing one or more of the following areas: childcare, job training and education, mental health support, domestic violence support and transportation.

Our 2010 grant application form, which explains our process and priorities in more detail, can be downloaded here. The grant application is posted on the Giving Circle's website and will also be on the NH Center for Non Profits website. We encourage you to forward this email to organizations that might be interested in applying or to apply on behalf of your own organization as appropriate.

The key details are summarized below:

Deadline: Electronic version of grant application must be emailed to info@seacoastwomengive.org by Friday, January 22nd
Eligible organizations must provide services in some or all of the following Seacoast towns of New Hampshire and Maine: Seabrook, Hampton, Hampton Falls, North Hampton, Rye, Portsmouth, New Castle, and Kittery.
Proposals should be based on a projected grant of $20,000, although the amount of the grant varies annually based on the contributions of Giving Circle members.
Thank you again for your support and guidance this fall and over the last three years. We are so lucky to count all of you amongst our friends and mentors in the community.

Deadline:  Open - The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Vulnerable Populations Portfolio is seeking new community-based approaches to health and health care problems that intersect with social factors—such as inadequate housing, poor education and poverty.

They are interested in projects that serve hard-to-reach individuals and families, especially new immigrants and refugees, frail older adults and at-risk adolescents and are especially interested in providing support to organizations that are outside the formal network of health care providers, such as grassroots organizations, faith-based organizations and advocacy organizations (rather than traditional providers such as hospitals and medical clinics).  Grants up to $300,000 for up to three years in duration are currently available.  All applicants must use the RWJF Brief Proposal Form to apply for this program.
