WFNH GRANTEES 2007

Academy of Learning and Technology (ALT), Nashua School District - $3,000 - Raising self-esteem and self-awareness
This grant will support the Women-in-Training program which will engage girls through discussion, guest speakers and field trips in order to empower female students and provide them with the opportunity to reflect upon themselves as young women, raising self-esteem and self-awareness.

Arts in Reach - $5,000 - full-time Program Director for Arts
This grant will increase and strengthen quality arts programming for disadvantaged middle and high school age girls by providing support for AIR’s first, full-time Program Director position.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Nashua - $4,000 - mentoring program
This grant will help expand the mentoring program at Girls Inc. from currently serving 50 girls to serving 60 girls.

Child & Family Services - $4,600 – Independence Building Workshops
To provide workshops to help pregnant and parenting young women build independence through education, economic and emotional support.

Families First Health and Support Center - $5,000 - First Steps home visiting program    
This grant will help with expenses associated with the expansion of the “First Steps” home visiting program in order to provide parenting support for pregnant teens and low-income women on our waiting list.

Friends of Women’s Supportive Services - $5,000 - Education about sexual assault and services    
This grant will support a comprehensive messaging campaign to educate and inform women (ages 18-25) and girls (grades 9-12) about sexual assault and services available through WSS and its collaborating partners.

Hanna House - $5,000 – Residential and Outreach Services
To provide residential and outreach services, case management, counseling, parenting education, and job training for pregnant and parenting youth.

Nashua Soup Kitchen & Shelter - $5,000 – Emergency Shelter, Food and Programs
To provide emergency shelter, food, and programs which promote dignity and self-sufficiency for single women and families with children.

New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence - $5,000 - Cut it Out Campaign
This grant will provide funding for the Cut it Out Campaign which educates beauty salon professionals and others to recognize the warning signs of domestic violence and abuse, and how to respond appropriately, with empathy and to refer clients for help when necessary.

NH Technical College, Claremont & Keene - $5,000 – Personal and Academic Support Services
To support Project RISE, (Redirection of Individuals through Supportive Education) providing personal and academic support services and financial assistance for single parents and displaced homemakers.

Northern NH Youth Services - $1,340 – ‘Voices’ Girls Group
To support a bi-weekly group for elementary school girls, facilitated by group home residents, using the ‘Voices’ curriculum of self-empowerment and understanding.

RESPONSE to Sexual & Domestic Violence - $5,000 – Transitional Housing Project
To provide support for the Transitional Housing Project which will bridge the gap between homelessness and permanent housing for victims of domestic violence, providing financial assistance with rental and utility payments along with supportive case management.

Seacoast Outright - $1,874 – Women’s Group
To support the Women’s Group monthly meetings, which offer a supportive environment for youth who identify as female to learn how to empower themselves, build self-esteem, and learn leadership skills.

Seymour Osman Community Center and Youth Safe Haven -$5,000 - Project GIRL      
This grant will support Project GIRL (Growth Inspiration Recreation Leadership) which will encourage girls to lead healthy lifestyles during the summer months. Project GIRL offers a six week, healthy living summer program, helping to build solidarity among girls of the same age, while instilling self-esteem and positive self-image through learning healthy eating and exercizing.

Sexual Assault Support Services - $4,000 – Sexual Violence Education & Awareness Program
To support the Sexual Violence Education & Awareness Program, a program that will increase the awareness of girls, pre-teens and teens, to the dangers and consequences of all forms of sexual violence, with the goal of reducing their risk of future victimization.

The Upper Room, A Family Resource Center - $5,000 - GED Education for teen mothers     
This grant will support a program for out-of-school teen mothers (ages 16-23 years) preparing for the GED exam.

WISE - $5,000 - Volunteer Coordinator position
This grant will provide funding for a Volunteer Coordinator position who will organize volunteer support services for the growing number of women and girls seeking them.

Women’s Rural Entrepreneurial NetworkWINGS Program for Girls - $5,000
To support workshops in arts and education programs which will provide girls with opportunities for self-discovery, empowerment, building self-esteem, creative expression and opening up new life possibilities.
